Paid Media Analytics: Measuring Performance Across All Paid Channels

The Paid Media Measurement Challenge

Paid media analytics is complicated by one fundamental problem: each platform uses its own attribution window, conversion definition, and counting methodology. A "conversion" in Google Ads is not the same thing as a "result" in Meta Ads, which is not the same as a "conversion" in LinkedIn Campaign Manager. Comparing these numbers directly produces misleading conclusions about channel performance.

Creating a Unified Measurement Framework

The solution: don't compare platform-reported conversions across platforms. Instead:

  1. Pull raw cost and impression/click data from each platform API
  2. Pull conversion data from a single authoritative source (GA4 or your CRM)
  3. Attribute conversions from the authoritative source to paid channels using GA4's channel grouping
  4. Join spend (from platforms) with attributed conversions (from GA4) in BigQuery
  5. Calculate consistent CAC and ROAS using the same methodology across all channels

Key Paid Media Metrics

  • Impression Share / Reach: What percentage of the available auction or audience you're reaching. Declining impression share signals increased competition or insufficient budget.
  • Click-Through Rate (CTR): Engagement rate with ads. Benchmark against your own historical performance by ad type and placement, not industry averages.
  • Cost Per Click (CPC): Market efficiency metric — rising CPC signals more competition or declining ad relevance.
  • Attributed Conversions and CPA: From your authoritative attribution source, not platform reporting.
  • ROAS: Attribution-adjusted revenue / spend. Calculated from your data, not the platform's data.

Platform-Specific Considerations

Google Ads conversion tracking should use the same conversion events as GA4. Meta requires Conversion API for reliable signal in a post-cookie world. LinkedIn conversions have notoriously long attribution windows (up to 90 days) that inflate reported performance. Our marketing analytics service builds the cross-platform measurement infrastructure that makes these comparisons reliable.
