What Are CDP Destinations?
Destinations are the tools your CDP sends data to after collecting and processing it. They're the "output" side of the CDP equation. A well-configured CDP routes the right data to each destination — the events that matter for that tool, in the format that tool expects.
Most CDPs offer 100–400+ pre-built destination connectors. Our CDP implementation team helps clients configure destinations correctly so data flows accurately to every tool in their stack.
Categories of Destinations
Analytics Destinations
Your analytics platforms receive all or most of your events for analysis and reporting.
- Google Analytics 4: CDP sends events directly to GA4's Measurement Protocol, bypassing browser-side collection. More reliable than the standard JavaScript gtag, especially with privacy restrictions limiting browser-based collection.
- Amplitude, Mixpanel, Heap: Product analytics tools that receive all behavioral events for funnel analysis, retention analysis, and feature usage reporting.
Advertising Destinations
The highest-value destinations for most marketing teams — where first-party audience data drives lower CPAs and better ROAS.
- Google Ads Customer Match: Upload hashed email lists from your CDP to Google Ads for audience targeting. Automatically update as segments change. Dramatically better than manual CSV uploads every week.
- Meta (Facebook) CAPI: CDP sends conversion events server-side via Facebook's Conversion API. More reliable than browser Pixel alone and compliant with iOS privacy changes.
- Google Ads Conversions: Server-side conversion events from your CDP complement browser-side Google Ads tracking, improving signal quality for Smart Bidding.
- LinkedIn Matched Audiences, TikTok Custom Audiences: Similar customer list matching for B2B and social platforms.
Email and CRM Destinations
Behavioral event data from your CDP transforms email and CRM personalization.
- Klaviyo, Braze, Iterable: CDP sends behavioral events (Product Viewed, Cart Abandoned, Order Completed) as email platform events, enabling trigger-based campaigns. Also syncs customer traits for segmentation.
- Salesforce, HubSpot: CDP pushes behavioral data and computed traits (engagement score, LTV tier) to enrich CRM contact records, giving sales teams behavioral context.
- Intercom, Drift: Chat tools receive user traits to power in-app messaging personalization.
Data Warehouse Destinations
Your warehouse receives a copy of all raw events for long-term storage, BI analysis, and machine learning.
- Google BigQuery: CDP streams all events to BigQuery where analysts can query them with SQL. This is the foundation for custom attribution models, LTV calculation, and advanced segmentation.
- Snowflake, Redshift: Same pattern for organizations using different warehouse providers.
Configuring Destinations: Common Pitfalls
- Sending all events to all destinations: Some destinations charge per event. Filter which events go to which destination — email tools don't need "Page Viewed" events; Google Ads only needs conversion events.
- Missing event mappings: GA4 expects specific event names (purchase, add_to_cart) that may differ from your CDP event names. Configure mappings in your destination settings.
- PII in the wrong places: Ensure email addresses in CDP profiles don't flow to advertising destinations where they'd be accessible to third parties. Most CDPs hash PII before sending to ad platforms — verify this is configured.
- Duplicate events: If you have both browser-side tags AND CDP server-side events going to the same destination, you'll count conversions twice. Disable browser-side tags when enabling CDP server-side destinations.
Destination Testing and Validation
After configuring each destination, validate that data is arriving correctly:
- Check CDP's event debugger for outbound delivery confirmations
- Verify events appear in the destination platform's event log
- Cross-reference conversion counts between CDP and destination for a validation period
- Use our conversion tracking fix service if discrepancies appear between expected and actual data delivery
