An identity used by Cloud Run services to authenticate to other Google Cloud services — like accessing Secret Manager for API keys.
Typically only Secret Manager Secret Accessor (to read API keys) and Cloud Logging Writer (automatically granted to Cloud Run).
Developers managing GTM: Cloud Run Developer + Cloud Logging Viewer. Admins: Cloud Run Admin. No one needs Owner unless absolutely required.
Granting only the permissions actually needed for a task — reducing the blast radius if credentials are compromised.
Avoid them where possible — Cloud Run automatically uses the service account identity without keys. Keys are needed only for external access.
Store them in Secret Manager and configure the Cloud Run service account to access them. Never store them as plain text environment variables.
