Landing Page CRO Checklist: 30 Elements to Evaluate

Use This Before Running Any Test

Before designing an A/B test, audit your landing page against this checklist. Many common conversion problems don't require A/B testing — they're clear fixes that should simply be implemented.

Our CRO team runs every new client through this checklist in week one. It consistently surfaces 3–7 immediate improvements before we write a single test hypothesis.

Headline and Value Proposition (Elements 1–6)

  1. Does the headline clearly state what you offer? A visitor should understand the offer within 3 seconds. If the headline is clever/witty at the expense of clarity, it's costing conversions.
  2. Does the headline match the ad/email/link that brought the visitor? Message mismatch is one of the top bounce drivers. If your Google Ads say "Free Trial — No Credit Card" and the page doesn't repeat that instantly, you're losing conversions.
  3. Is there a compelling subheadline that adds detail? Headline grabs attention; subheadline explains the value.
  4. Is the unique value proposition clearly stated above the fold? Why you, not a competitor?
  5. Is the primary benefit to the customer (not features of your product) front and center? "Save 5 hours per week" beats "Automated scheduling engine."
  6. Is the language specific, not vague? "Increase conversions" is vague. "Clients average 34% more leads in 90 days" is specific.

Call to Action (Elements 7–12)

  1. Is the primary CTA visible without scrolling on desktop and mobile? Check scroll maps.
  2. Is there only one primary CTA? Multiple CTAs create decision paralysis. If you need secondary CTAs, make the hierarchy clear.
  3. Is the CTA button text action-oriented and specific? "Get My Free Report" beats "Submit". "Start Free Trial" beats "Sign Up".
  4. Does the CTA button have sufficient visual contrast? It should pop from the background without relying on color alone.
  5. Is there a secondary CTA for visitors not ready to commit? "Book a Demo" as primary, "See Case Studies" as secondary.
  6. Is there a CTA repeated after long-form content? Don't make visitors scroll back up after reading your full pitch.

Trust and Credibility (Elements 13–18)

  1. Are there customer testimonials with full names and companies? "John D., CEO" is weak. "John Doe, CEO of Acme Corp" is credible.
  2. Are testimonials specific about results achieved? "Great service" is worthless. "Increased our leads by 40% in 60 days" converts.
  3. Are trust logos (clients, certifications, press mentions) visible?
  4. Is social proof quantified? "Join 12,000+ businesses" beats "Join thousands."
  5. Are security/privacy signals present near forms? SSL badge, privacy statement, "No spam" microcopy.
  6. Is there a risk reversal? Money-back guarantee, free trial, no credit card required. Explicitly stated.

Content and Layout (Elements 19–24)

  1. Is the most critical content above the 50% scroll line for your audience? Check scroll maps.
  2. Are benefits organized in scannable format? Bullet points, icons, numbered lists — not dense paragraphs.
  3. Are images relevant and supporting the message? Generic stock photos reduce trust. Real product shots, team photos, and customer faces increase it.
  4. Does video content include captions? 80%+ of video is watched without sound.
  5. Is page load time under 3 seconds on mobile? Test with Google PageSpeed Insights.
  6. Is the visual hierarchy clear? Reader should naturally flow headline → subheadline → benefits → CTA.

Form Optimization (Elements 25–27)

  1. Is the form asking only for information you'll actually use? Every extra field reduces completion rate.
  2. Are field labels clear and outside the field? Placeholder-only labels disappear when typing begins.
  3. Is there microcopy explaining why you need sensitive fields? "Phone (for delivery updates only)" reduces phone field drop-off.

Mobile Experience (Elements 28–30)

  1. Is the CTA button large enough for thumb tap on mobile? Minimum 44px height per Apple's guidelines.
  2. Does the form work correctly on mobile keyboards? Number fields should trigger numeric keypad, email fields should show @ keyboard.
  3. Is content text readable without zooming? Minimum 16px base font size for mobile.

After auditing against this checklist, prioritize fixes by implementation effort and expected impact. Our CRO team conducts systematic landing page audits as part of every conversion optimization engagement. Contact us for a landing page audit.
